What are the Exam Types of PSAT?

PSAT has three and listed below
1. PSAT 8/9
2. PSAT/NMSQT
3. PSAT 10
The PSAT 8/9 is for students in the 8th and 9th classes and the PSAT 10 is for sophomores. The PSAT/NMSQT stands for the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which students take as a junior.

PSAT/NMSQT

The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is a standardized test administered by the College Board and sponsored in the United States by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). In the 2018-2019 school year, 2.27 million sophomores and 1.74 million juniors took the PSAT. PSAT/NMSQT scores are used to determine eligibility and qualification for the National Merit Scholarship Program. The PSAT has been administered every fall since 1971. Some PSAT scores before June 1993 are accepted into smart clubs such as Intertel and American Mensa. Once Before 1997, the PSAT consisted of only math and verbal sections. The verbal part was weighted twice, so the total score was 240. The Writing Skills section, introduced in 1997, derives in part from the defunct Standard Test of Written English (TSWE). In the fall of 2015, the PSAT changed its format and content. Initially, each of the three sections was evaluated on a scale of 20 to 80 points, so the maximum total score was 240 points. This is similar to the SAT, which scores each section on a scale from 200 to 800 (a smaller range is used to distinguish which test the score is on and indicates less accuracy). However, unlike the old SAT (2005), the old PSAT did not include higher-level math (such as concepts from Algebra II) or an essay section in the writing section (which was added to the SAT in 2005). The number of multiple-choice answers was reduced from five to four, thus increasing the probability of a successful guess and eliminating the penalty of a quarter point for wrong answers.

PSAT Format and Scoring

National Medal of Merit Scholarship Program Students register for the exam through high schools that are members of the College Board. The test consists of two parts: reading and writing and arithmetic. Each part consists of two modules. Each reading and writing module lasts 32 minutes, the maths module 35 minutes, for a total of 2 hours 14 minutes. In the fall of 2023, the PSAT changed format and content again, continuing the transition to digital testing. The reading and writing sections have been combined into one section, and the math section allows the use of calculators in each section. Scores for each section range from 120 to 760, with a maximum score of 1520. However, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation ranks each section's scores on a scale of 6 to 38, adds them, and then doubles the total score. Selection index - from 36 to 228. There are three levels of recognition: approved, semi-finalist, and finalist. About 34,000 students, 3-4% of all PSAT test takers, receive "Honors Certificates" and Honors Certificates. The "commendable" threshold is reaching the 96th percentile nationally. This number increased from 202 in the 2006 program (PSAT 2004) to 203 in the 2007 program (PSAT 2005). There were 205 in the 2008 program (PSAT 2006) and 209 in the 2009 program (PSAT 2007). Students are considered semi-finalists one year after taking the PSAT. After that, students must fill out an application form to participate in the final. In addition to the PSAT Selection Index score, other factors are considered, such as the student's grade point average (GPA) and SAT subscore.

How to Calculate PSAT?

On our website, we have done all things automatically for you. All you need is to enter your raw score in (Math, Reading, and Writing) textboxes. If you want to calculate things manually then do the below steps. In this example, we will show the rules for calculations of PSAT 10 (Practice Test#2). follow the below steps.
Step 1: Convert Raw Score to Section Score. Suppose you got a raw score (of 43 Points in Math, 40 in Reading & 39 in Writing).
Step 2: Use the Table from the College Board Site to convert the Raw score to the Section Score, we have attached the tables at the top, you can check them. (Math raw score 40 = 670, Reading raw score 40 = 34 and Writing raw score 39 = 34)
Step 3: Now add reading and writing scores (34 + 34 = 68).
Step 4: Multiply added numbers of writing and reading with 10 (68 * 10 = 680). Step 5: Add Math and Reading/Writing Scores (670 + 680 = 1350).
